• Granite is a tough and nonporous stone so it is more stain and scratch resistant. You could even technically cut on this surface without damaging it but may end up damaging your cutlery.
• Marble on the other hand is more likely to suffer scratches and stains. However you can improve the durability with a sealer.
• Both materials are fairly resistant to heat but you should still use a trivet as a buffer just in case.
• Both are also fairly strong materials but marble is more porous and may be prone to chipping or cracking.
• Granite and marble can both be sealed but it is almost a must with marble since it is porous.
